CULPEER4change transforms young people to global citizens

Some keywords

For more than twenty years the KinderKulturKarararawane has been offering the world's youth a stage in theatres, cultural centres, festivals and city festivals - and above all in schools. Young artists from the Global South show scenes from their everyday lives, from the lives of their families, peers and neighbourhoods with theatre, dance, circus, acrobatics and music.

These (young) people get face and voice here. In the creative dialogue from peer to peer between the young people from the Global South and the young people in Europe, the foundation stone is laid for a joint commitment to global justice, to move from diverse knowledge to action and thus to become real global citizens.

A network for the Sustainable Development Goals

Since February 2019 municipalities and NGOs in Bulgaria, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Austria, Poland and Slovenia as well as projects in Tanzania and Bolivia have been working together to use the innovative concept of cultural peer learning in a three-year project, to integrate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) into local and regional curricula and to create more public attention in the participating cities and municipalities for socio-ecological transformation.

Under the title "CULPEER for change", the network will concentrate on three SDGs:

SDG 13.3 "Take urgent action to combat climate change" - global causes and impacts of climate change will be highlighted and creative options for action will be developed.
SDG 16.2 "Ending abuse, exploitation, human trafficking and all forms of violence against and torture of children" - The rights of children are the focus of the action, supported by twelve youth groups of the Global South.
SDG 10.7 "Facilitating orderly, safe, regular and responsible migration" - Causes and effects of migration and flight are a focus of the Action, which addresses refugee problems in Europe.

The Cologne-based "Institut equalita e.V." has taken over the lead management of the project funded by the EU Commission on behalf of the City of Cologne. A bundle of measures and actions is on the network's agenda until the beginning of 2022.

Creative exchange projects

Image of a theatre groupThe core of the holistic project are creative exchange projects of young artist groups from the Global South and young people in schools and youth centres in the participating European municipalities of Kalundborg, Sonderborg, Plovdiv, Nova Gorica, Varese, Wroclaw, Gdansk, Langenlois and Cologne. For this exchange, the young artists have developed a stage performance for one of the aforementioned SDGs. It is the starting material that the young people develop together here. The result of this joint work will be presented to the public at the end. The original performance will also be shown publicly and accompanied by conversations.

These creative exchange projects are intensively prepared by representatives of the partner projects from the Global South in visits lasting several days a few months in advance, so that the young people here and also the teachers involved know which exciting and instructive project they can later experience.

Murals

Three artists from Europe, the Global South and their own country will develop a mural together with pupils over a period of six weeks and bring it together with the young people to a central and large wall in the town. In this way they set a creative and sustainable example for the implementation of the SDG.

Conferences

There will also be a one-day conference in each of the participating countries bringing together education professionals at national level. Together with the representatives of our network, they will discuss the opportunities and ways to promote a holistic approach to education of CULPEER 4 change into the didactic framework plans and the school curricula. Here, too, the peer-to-peer approach will ultimately be implemented, because all participants at these conferences will b a lot to get to know and learn from their colleagues about the various educational systems and the conditions for the successful integration of our concept.

Digital Platform

To support the work of the network and the pedagogues in the schools, there is the internet platform culpeer4change.eu with diverse materials for educational work, open educational resources, e-learning modules and innovative and entertaining forms of dealing with the SDG.

Regular network meetings in connection with the above-mentioned conference as well as a professional evaluation of the project ensure that the work of CULPEER 4 change can be optimally further developed.
